Interfaith Hospitality Network
Three weeks a year, our church opens its doors to serve as an emergency homeless shelter to families as part of the Interfaith Hospitality Network, a network of churches that assist families in crisis and needing a place to stay. Members and guests are encouraged to bring a meal or spend the night with our guests as they work toward stability and self-sufficiency.
Cafe Justo
Eastminster offers coffee for sale as part of the PCUSA’s mission to support farmers who sell Fair Trade Coffee. Cafe Justo directly supports Mexican coffee growers and roasters by eliminating the layers of costs between these people and the consumers as nearly every dollar spent is returned to the producers. Cafe Justo keeps farmers on their land and, by sending the profits back to Mexico, helps alleviate poverty south of the border.
Hunger Offering
As a PCUSA Hunger Action Congregation, Eastminster supports a Special Collection taken up by the children of EPC every 3rd Sunday which helps to fund our Hunger Ministries, particularly, Rise Against Hunger. This organization is alleviating hunger throughout the world by feeding entire families, not simply individuals.
Souper Bowl of Caring
This national event takes place every year on Super Bowl Sunday. On this day, we collaborate with our Youth to collect monetary donations to help feed those in our community who are hungry.
Alternative Gifts Fair
During the Christmas season, we offer an Alternative Gifts Fair, which allows people to purchase unique hand made items, make donations to various organizations in someone’s name and buy gifts from crafts people in our congregation and in the community. A portion of the profits support our Outreach programs.
Robert E. Cashion Elementary School
Eastminster supports Robert E. Cashion shool each year at Christmas with an Angel Tree. Members of the congregation choose a child’s name off the tree and provide Christmas gifts for that child at the school. We also collect school supplies for the children of this school.
Summer Food Drive
We collect canned foods during the summer for the Center for Community Services (CCS) and for United Ministries.
