GOAL Justice
Eastminster Presbyterian joined Greenville Organized for Accountable Leadership (GOAL) in May of 2023. GOAL Justice is a diverse coalition of 29 faith communities across Greenville County, SC, who have answered the call to “do justice” by bringing together people to solve entrenched local community problems at their root. Each Fall, members of our congregation are invited to attend house meetings to share stories and concerns about community needs. These are collected by GOAL leadership, and after collating the input from across all member churches, we all meet together to democratically select two priorities for the coming year. Examples of priority areas in the past few years include affordable housing, reducing evictions, mental health, and pedestrian safety. Subcommittees for each focus area are then charged with researching these areas of concern and proposing solutions. This effort culminates with the attendance of 30-50 EPC congregants and friends as we join with about 2000 other faith community members at the Nehemiah Action meeting each Spring. During this gathering, the focus areas and proposed solutions are shared with the attendees and invited Greenville city and county elected officials.
Please contact GOAL Team Leaders Scott Carlson or Brenda Smith for more information about participation in this important EPC Justice Ministry.
