CHURCH NEWS

 

·         Our guest preacher this Sunday, July 25th is The Reverend Nancy Blakely   Nancy is chaplain at the Rainey Hospice House, Hospice of the Upstate, in Anderson, SC.  She and her husband Charlie, also a minister member of Foothills Presbytery, have a daughter Caroline Wood who graduated this May from Princeton Theological Seminary and is pursuing a call to ministry.  June 15, 2010 marked the 30th anniversary of Nancy's installation to a pastorate in the state of South Carolina.

·         The Choir will rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9:50 a.m.  Then during Worship the choir will offer the gift of song to God and the Eastminster congregation. No experience is necessary - please join us!

 

·         Thank you Gail and Rich Pocock for hosting last Sunday’s Social Time.  You too can be a Host the month of August is available. See Sharon or any Fellowship Team member if you would like to volunteer.  The Adult Sunday school class will host September.

 

·         The Summer Adult Sunday school will meet in the Resource Center in the Presbytery building at 9:15 a.m.  The next two Sunday’s John Supra will lead studies on a book concerning Christianity and evolution.                                      

·         Sunday school teachers needed!  No experience necessary!   We are looking for   someone to teach 3rd-5th graders this Sunday 7/25. There are also a few remaining spots on August 1st and August 15th. Please contact Scott Carlson at  scott@schneidertree.com if you’re available. Many thanks to those that have shared their time and talents with our children this summer!  

 

·         We are recruiting Sunday school and Children’s Worship teachers for the 2010-2011 school year. If you’re interested in serving this way, please contact Susan Carlson at      susantcarlson@gmail.com

 

·         “A short meeting of the Mortgage Retirement Team will be held this Sunday, July 25, 2010 immediately following worship. The Mortgage Retirement Team explores creative ways to reduce Eastminster’s mortgage as a means of directing more of our resources toward outreach and ministry opportunities. If you have questions, or would like to participate on this team, but are unable to attend this meeting, please       provide your telephone number and email address (if available) to either Mike         Armor at 423-1111 and m.armor@atepgroup.com or Bill Twitty at 458-9754 and btwitty@charter.net

 

·         Back to School supplies for children at Robert Cashion School will be collected from Aug.1st - Aug. 15th.   Some of the children who attend this school can't afford the things they need to start school, so please consider donating items like pencils and crayons and other supplies when you're shopping for your own children. A complete list is available by the donation box near the office. If you would like to make a monetary donation please put a check with "school supplies" written on the memo line in the box and I will buy supplies for you.  Question contact Gail Pocock at 322-7238.                                                

·         Food, Faith and Fellowship-Wednesday  evenings at 6:00 p.m. Potluck dinner followed at 6:30 p.m. by a time of songs and prayer for the whole family in the outdoor worship space.  If it rains, we’ll meet on the stage.   This is a wonderful opportunity to relax and recharge- Come join us! 

·         Over 50’s Social will attend a Greenville Drive Game on Sunday August 8th at 7:00 PM.  Questions, contact Anita Harley 286-6192 or aharley@charter.net            

·         Calling all Cooks or Wannabe COOKS!!!  This coming Thursday evening                July 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in our fabulous kitchen, Anita Harley will be working with Phyllo (fillo) dough.  We will make an appetizer and a dessert using this flaky wonderful dough!  So please call or email Anita at 286-6192 aharley@chartr.net if you plan to be there and haven’t signed up yet.  Please bring $5.00 to cover cost of ingredients.

·         If you should have an emergency or someone you know needs pastoral care, please contact the church office at 284-0190 during these hours.  If you need assistance after office hours please contact Rev. Jim Caprell at cell: 608-0405 or home: 963-5857.  You can also send an email to Katie Keller elder in charge of Congregational Care at network62@eastminster.com.  Prayer request forms are available each Sunday morning on the welcome table in the commons.

 

·         God’s Pantry food donations.  Please bring your donations and place them in the basket in the commons each week.  Families need food everyday especially during the summer months when children are out of school.
