There is a feeling of authenticity at EPC. We feel called to ministry without ostentation or pretense and seek simplicity in all aspects of our life together. EPC is a cause-oriented group with a high conscience for social justice and eco-friendly initiatives. We like to roll up our sleeves and aren’t afraid to work hard. Our congregation is comprised of mostly highly educated professionals with a large concentration of empty-nesters and families with young children. Our members are certainly our greatest resource and we are intentional about creating service and learning opportunities to match their gifts. We are diverse and welcoming with a broad world view, but also intensely loyal to each other. Most of our members are not native to the area, so their church family is often their main source of support and fellowship. This community spirit also allows us to acknowledge our weaknesses and address them with compassion and honesty. When our founding pastors left, we quickly realized that EPC was a resilient body of believers, and we rallied with new programs and increased membership. It is this spirit-filled momentum that will lead us to our next called pastor and beyond. EPC lies in the busy and often distracted heart of suburbia which presents a number of theological challenges and opportunities for ministry. Our primary goal is to help each member discover his or her spiritual purpose. We encourage everyone to seek a closer relationship with Christ through worship, study and active service for God’s kingdom. We respect the individuality of God’s relationship with each person and congregation. Recognizing diversity within our community, EPC continues to seek relevant ways to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly while sharing the love of Christ with others. We reach out to those on the fringes of society through programs that model healthy lifestyles, basic life skills and respect for ourselves and each other. We support and encourage good financial and ecological stewardship. We challenge ourselves to accept the Holy Spirit’s ever reforming powers as we support justice in the local and global community. We believe that God’s loving and providential powers will bring about righteousness and reconciliation for both the large and small issues of the world. Our work reflects Jesus’ command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves. |
